More like corny! I’m usually a little wary of wine cork projects, but they are so abundant and practical. And speaking of corn, I’m going to the season’s first cookout today to eat some corn and soak up some sun. Yum! And what would a good cookout be without a….trivet? Ok maybe not. But my kitchen could use a few, so I won’t faced with the decision between breaking my wrist holding that heavy Le Creuset or melting my table top. So here’s this little DIY ditty. I cut the corks in half and hot glued them together. You can make many different sizes and patterns. I painted the edge, but I might prefer it natural. Presto!

I haven’t been crafting much lately. I made these cute kitties a long time ago, but that’s not going to stop me from sharing them with you today. They are hand-sewn and filled with catnip! What’s not to love? Oh yeah….except any cat of mine has never been enticed by a cat toy. Tape? Yes. Pens? Love it. Whatever crafty material I’m trying to work with at the moment? Sure. But once I’ve whipped up something cuddly and delicious smelling for them, they turn their noses up. Ah well, they still looked good lying around on my floor.

It’s been nearly 6 months since I’ve been to Ikea, which means I’m starting to obsessively visit their website and dream of my shopping list for my next visit. Unfortunately (or fortunately), we’ll be moving in the next couple months, so I don’t want to bring home a bunch of stuff that I will then have to drag up and down several flights of stairs. So I guess it will have to wait until September, when hopefully we will have an actual bedroom AND living room, and will be in legitimate need of some extra furniture. Then I will have an excuse!

Until then I will drool over their Vino chair, which is at the top of my shopping list. Derived from Mies’s classic cantilever, I’m in love with this rendition in steel and warm wood. And at a reasonable $59.99, I think I need it in my home. Or on my (soon-to-have) deck, since it’s made of acacia and is suitable for outdoor use.

I know, I’ve been slacking again. But I  was at work for 10 hours today, plus two more on the train, so I hope you can forgive me. In the brief interlude before I order some takeout and fall asleep, I wanted to share with you this bit of inspiration. (Via Cliff Kuang for Fast Company)

rock garden

All the typographies (plural?) in the slide show are great, but my favorite is this rock collection, which a woman amassed over 20 years. Makes me less embarrassed of my tendency to pick up any shiny/rusty/broken/dirty object that catches my eye. It also makes me realize that it’s well into June and I haven’t been to the beach yet, though I live just a few miles from the ocean. Soon!

About

I know this much is true:

I graduated in 2009, thinking I wanted to be an architect. I'm not. But I do get to organize and beautify things for a living, which is a-okay by me. After college I packed up a van and moved a thousand miles away. Now I'm in Boston and a little out of my comfort zone. But there's a lot to learn and see and do! My interests, aside from architecture and leaving Indiana, revolve around everything beautiful. Furniture, houses, stationery, clothes, trees....I just want it all to be lovely and functional and clever. Also I like cats.

Beyond those simple facts, I'm kind of at a loss.

So this is a blog of what I DO know is true. Ideas, inspirations, crafts, cats... the things I think are beautiful and honest and real.
