Reminds me of Dumbo. How cute is this guy? I found him and three matching friends at my favorite local thrift store in a grab bag for 75 cents. I don’t think I’ve had any need for a shot glass since college, but they’d make nice tiny dessert cups. Tiramisu has rum in it, right?

truck spring stools

truck spring stools

I’ve always been fascinated by texture. I love the way things deteriorate over time. These stools made from old truck springs are a prime example of repurposing. They look much better in a modern kitchen than on a hillside in the rural mid west among refrigerators and couches.

Surpassing the merit of keeping them out of the landfill, these recycled stools remind us of a time when not everything was made of plastic. They are heavy. They ground us. They make us wonder about every scratch and speck of rust. They have a history and make us believe that maybe we will too.

Now, I’m not saying I don’t have a simulatenous love for the modern, clean, Marius stool from Ikea. Because I do. Because sometimes we want to move forward. And sometimes we want to look back.

About

I know this much is true:

I graduated in 2009, thinking I wanted to be an architect. I'm not. But I do get to organize and beautify things for a living, which is a-okay by me. After college I packed up a van and moved a thousand miles away. Now I'm in Boston and a little out of my comfort zone. But there's a lot to learn and see and do! My interests, aside from architecture and leaving Indiana, revolve around everything beautiful. Furniture, houses, stationery, clothes, trees....I just want it all to be lovely and functional and clever. Also I like cats.

Beyond those simple facts, I'm kind of at a loss.

So this is a blog of what I DO know is true. Ideas, inspirations, crafts, cats... the things I think are beautiful and honest and real.
