Believe it or not, it’s still spring for two more days. This time of year always brings lots of birthdays, so I’ve been mailing lots of packages and baking lots of cupcakes. It’s also the time when farmer’s markets are springing up across the city and there are fresh berries to be had. I didn’t have any food coloring to pretty up my usual frosting recipe, so I mashed up some raspberries to give it a little color instead. I added whole blackberries and raspberries to top each cupcake, plus a cute little kitten toothpick topper. As easy as these are to whip up, you now have no excuse for forgetting anyone’s birthday.

In my ongoing quest to use every tiny scrap of fabric I have (or we could just say compulsion to never throw anything away….), today I made some fabric collage/applique doo-dads. I haven’t decided what to use them for yet? Maybe adorn some tea towels or napkins? Some Easter cards, if I hurry? You probably can’t tell it’s tweed from the picture, but that orange-y fabric actually used to be a pair of shoes I loved to death. When their time had come I chopped them up hoping I could one day use the tiny bit of strange shaped fabric.  I’m very happy that that day is here and I was indeed able to prolong the life of that orange tweed. I intend to embroider them in a contrasting color thread…eventually, and I’ll probably add some more fruit and different animals to the collection. At least I know the cat likes them, since she won’t butt out of the picture.

new couch

Kitty likes the new couch

Finally, a place for guests to sit! There were some naysayers about whether we could fit a couch in our apartment but I knew there was a way! Ok so maybe it’s a liiiitle cramped, but this wee love seat folds out so we can even have faraway visitors spend the night. (Ahem, hem, hem, come visit!).

The tweed pillow used to be a pair of pants, which were already donated to me by one of my lovely college roommates. But alas, I don’t have her track-star legs, and they always looked kinda funny on me. I love gray tweed however, and couldn’t bear to donate them. So I hacked ‘em off at the thigh, rolled up the cuffs, and made some  cute menswear style shorts (perfect with black tights for winter!). The leftover legs were just the right size to n0-sew into a stylin’ pillowcase, which now has a home on our new gray couch.

And our new loooove seat arrived just in time for Valentine’s day :) Which means I’ll have to get on top of cranking out some Valentine’s soon! I love any excuse to make lots of cards. Possibly while sitting on the couch.

Cat in Drawer.

Doc

Now that the boyfriend has a full time job, I am stuck in the aparment all day with the cat. She likes to help me when I’m trying to organize my drawers full of art stuff/paper scraps/stationery. Thanks, Doc.  So helpful. Her other hobbies include puking, throwing litter around, and sniffing my face while I sleep. Her resume is almost as illustrius as mine.

About

I know this much is true:

I graduated in 2009, thinking I wanted to be an architect. I'm not. But I do get to organize and beautify things for a living, which is a-okay by me. After college I packed up a van and moved a thousand miles away. Now I'm in Boston and a little out of my comfort zone. But there's a lot to learn and see and do! My interests, aside from architecture and leaving Indiana, revolve around everything beautiful. Furniture, houses, stationery, clothes, trees....I just want it all to be lovely and functional and clever. Also I like cats.

Beyond those simple facts, I'm kind of at a loss.

So this is a blog of what I DO know is true. Ideas, inspirations, crafts, cats... the things I think are beautiful and honest and real.
