Today is yet another rainy, lazy, day. I just want to take a minute to mention my latest obsession. I came across this photographer’s work a couple weeks ago and haven’t been able to get it out of my head. Rob Dobi is a RISD grad and New England native who photographs abandoned institutional buildings in the area. I’ve always been fascinated by the colors and textures of weathering and decay (and I’m not talking shabby chic here), so his work makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. That, combined with the delicious minimalism, elegant composition, and visceral silence that resonates throughout the images makes them incredibly powerful. It also makes me want to throw my camera in the trash in atonement for any feeble efforts I’ve made in the same direction. Hopefully I’ll be satisfied by spending part of my tax refund on a print…if I can ever decide on one.
